Lulu Yang and #BridalMarket

Amazingly blessed to have had a balcony view this past Wednesday of Luly Yang's Diamond Bridal Collection for 2012. The one word I haven't been able to steer from is stunning.

Luly's collection gave me the impression that mid century fashion is making a strong resurgence, Mad Men style if you will.

I ended up pushing my little cell phone's camera and zoom to it's absolute limit. However, I think these shots are just good enough to share with you.

On the horizon, Bridal Market week starts tomorrow (although there are twitpics coming through today) and continues through Monday.

#KimKWedding - Kardashian Wedding Twitter?

No matter how hard I searched last evening, I had one heck of a time finding any really fun or interesting wedding twitter for Kim Kardashian's wedding to Kris Humphries.

The sad part is that I found a lot of mean spirited twitter and that made me sad. Maybe the economy is partly a reason that folks cannot wrap their heads around such a spectacle being blasted out on Bravo and the hype on The Today Show? Even the page on the new Huffington Post Wedding page touting, live and updated tweets throughout the show was not the kind of twitter I'd like to retweet. It very well may have been a trending topic, but I wouldn't be so proud. Any why exactly was the hashtag for the event #KimKWedding? Where is the groom in all this anyway?

We'll follow the twitter on the part 2 of this "fairytale" wedding and see what happens. What are your thoughts on the wedding episode and the wedding itself - got any good tweets to share?

Social Media is poking it’s head up in every aspect of our lives. Weddings are no exception.
From planning online to having your guests interact with you, there are many ways to make social media a part of your wedding planning and day.
Now, the bride & groom (obviously) should be enjoying their day, loving this time with family and friends and certainly not diverting attention from them to their digital device. You don’t have to be Dana Hanna, you can share your day socially without tweeting from the altar. How you go about it is key.

Here are a few ways to have fun with social media on your wedding day and create your very own #owt = overheard wedding twitter…

For Your Bridal Party
Tell your bridal party “It’s okay to tweet!” You can get some really funny moments captured by your friends & family while getting ready on the day of. Often there is a lot of waiting for hair, makeup and photo’s. Share the fun moments that happen during these times.

Have an Official Tweeter and Well Wishing Station
Have one or more “Tweets of Honor”. Have some technologically obsessed friends? This is a great job for them! These folks can quietly tweet from a corner as not to be obtrusive or can come out of the shadows and provide you with a full on social media guest book station.
When live tweeting keep this advice in mind;

Be polite - Don’t tweet when you should be participating & listening (specifically during the liturgy of the ceremony).
Use good judgment - Don’t tweet things that could be embarrassing to a guest or the couple.
Tweet the senses - The look of the venue, the feeling in the air, the smell of the flowers, the amazing ice sculpture, in short, the details.
For the especially geeky - Set up a station. Have a laptop, use tweet deck, a projector and screen. Encourage guests to come by, tweet their well wishes and watch other’s tweets scroll over the screen. This can be used in conjunction with same day edits provided by your videographer and photographer.
Time for toasts - Have you Tweet of Honor compile some well wishes that have been tweeted out and share them during the toats. This can be a very fun twist on the traditional toasting time.

Live Stream the Ceremony.
The use of ustream to share (publicly or privately) you day live online for friends and family that cannot make it to your ceremony. Especially useful for those having destination weddings. If Great grandmother cannot make it, she can still virtually attend and share in your joy.

Encourage your Guests to Participate
Create a #hashtag for sharing your event. This will make all tweets from your day easy to find later on and helps to create a feeling of celebration for your guests.
Print up some tented cards, on your menu or program with the hashtag for your event and encourage your guests to send you their well wishes, touching moments and snap shots. These are moments that otherwise would have been missed.

Vendor TwitterIt’s likely that your vendors are active on Social Media. We’ve seen some amazing tweets from florists, bakers, event designers, coordinators and DJ’s. Let them know that it’s okay for them to take a moment out and tweet sweet moments from your wedding.

Not your Mother’s Guest Book
Compile all these tweets and digital well wishes together with your wedding video and professional photographs to create a truly unique guest book/scrapbook.

QR = Quick Response for the Wedding Industry

Are you using a QR (Quick Response) code?

By now we all should know about the use of QR codes. They've shown up around my neighborhood years ago on the windows of restaurants, my hair salon and a local lawyers office. Not until recently are these codes appealing to the masses. The reason? The availability of smart phones.

What IS a QR code? Basically it's a bar code that can be scanned using your smart phone's camera and an app that directs it's user to any website (yours) on the Internet, to make a phone call or to add yourself in the users contacts.

The fact you can create an online relationship with a potential client basically offline is nothing but a plus. So simple, so easy. So the question is, how can a QR code benefit your wedding business?

Today for #TechTuesday I've put together a list of ways you (wedding industry) can (need to) use QR codes.

On your business card! Yes, I suppose we're getting lazy. Sure I can sit down and type in your website off your card, but will I? With one scan, I'm at your site. My dyslexic typing skills have not foiled this potential relationship!

In your shop window. I have my Mom and kids with me and we all have ice cream. Since I'm respectful I'm not going to drag my sticky entourage into your bridal shop. Instead I'll scan your QR code you've put in your shop window. Now you're info is in my phone and I can visit again when I can focus on what you have to offer.

Stickers. Come on now, who doesn't love a sticker? Beyond that, maybe you already have your marketing material for the season printed. Re print to incorporate the code? I don't think so. Print up your QR code on some sticky paper and enhance your existing material. Good to go.

Bridal Shows! I could go on and on about bridal shows, but I'll boil it down to this. Get some foam core board, paste that code to it and stand it up where it can been seen and captured. Really now, we all know that brides these days are using the Internet more and more and more to plan and surf for vendors, make sure she sees your site! Plus, how many potential clients can you talk with at one time? Don't loose those potential clients because you're caught up with Chatty Cathy dominating your time.

Coupons, contests and more followers? Use the QR code to link to your Facebook page so your potential client can "like" you and be entered into your contest or download your coupon. Want more followers? Link that QR code to your Twitter.

People LOVE pictures! If you use the QR for nothing more, use it to link to a gallery of your work. Sprinkle some pictures of thank you notes and praises you have gotten via screen captures into that picture gallery as well. Pictures sell! From Flickr or from Picasa, just make sure it works with mobile media

QR codes are free and easy to make. Safeway, Target, Best Buy are big businesses using QR codes in their marketing campaigns, why aren't you?

For those potential clients that are unaware of what a QR code is, provide some support. Under your QR code, give some info on what the code is and a good (and free) code reader app your client can easily download to their phone. People like people that are helpful. Be helpful.

Kim Kardashian wed basketball star Kris Humphries in a lavish ceremony Saturday night, but the party was shut down early after stuffy neighbors called the cops complaining about the noise….

A source told us, “Around midnight DJ Cassidy, who had been spinning for an hour, was ordered to shut down because the neighbors were complaining about the volume of the music. The neighbors didn’t come over, but they called the police. Kim took the news OK and seemed relaxed about it, but her sister Khloe was pretty upset and making a bit of a scene. She kept talking to the wedding planner to see if there was anything they could do, but there wasn’t. But the party kept going anyway and most people stayed until about 2 a.m. ~ The New York Post

Facebook + Twitter + Google + Wouldn't it be nice?

#TechTuesday - Surfing though all the social media choices.
Google Plus is quickly changing the face of social media. Certainly I've been thrilled while at the same time yearning for just a little more. They are still beta testing so I've told myself to relax, it's coming. Ahhh, young love.

And wouldn't it be nice to live together

If Google +can make friends with Facebook and Twitter, I may never leave.
In the meantime, leave it to the developers! My pick for immediate integration is the SGPlus extension for Chrome.

As with many new apps and G+ itself, there are bugs. Some say it's use of cpu is outrageous and others say it can have connectivity issues. You also need to be aware the extension app has access to your browsing.

I have not experienced any problems with it, in fact upgraded to support the developers and get the full real time functionality. Being able to read and post to all accounts is making this social media addict very happy.
Although I don't get ALL the functionality of my FB or Twitter - I can check my Twitter feed, my Facebook feed and get gmail notifications. Plans are in the works to import LinkedIn as well.

This post explains how a weekend project turned into an unintentional launch and an embarrassing moment with Guy Kawasaki. Who doesn't love a story like this? And here is the Wiki in case you experience any issues. Thanks to @inZania for creating what I was yearning for!

I see a bright future ahead for G+. Am I giving up my Facebook, my Twitter? No. I feel each have their place... for now. What I love is a single place to track my accounts and share information from all these separate streams with my circles. Maybe it's just puppy love, but I think G+ may turn into true love.

To share the wedding festivities or not to share. That's not even the question! More to the point, are you a rude user of social media?

Offbeat Bride posted an article I found very interesting and informative and I suggest you all take a moment to read it.

I'll tell you the first picture in her post of a line of folks using their digital devices to capture the couple's special moment makes my tummy turn. At the same time the other pic featured with the photographer milling around the couple and Pastor is so unprofessional I can hardly stand it.

As a venue coordinator for a decade now I've certainly had these moments and we've put up signage asking folks to keep their seats and if they wish to snap a few pictures to be respectful and discrete.
The Uncle Bob that is mentioned is too very common and on many occasions I've had to tap Uncle Bob on the shoulder and ask him to sit down and let the photographer do his/ her job. This is where the 'church coordinator' sometimes gets her rep, it's our job to ask folks (guests and some time vendors) to mind their manners. It's not an easy or well respected job, but someone has to do it. In the same vain, I've learned to have pre wedding chats with the photographer, pastor and the couple about best practices during the wedding. There is nothing more distracting than the photographer getting shots from over the Pastor's shoulder while the couple are exchanging rings.

Some may think that I'm a proponent of being a slave to your device and sharing everything, every moment in 140. Not true. Be kind, be polite, put it down! You can live you life in extremes and pick a side, or you can realise that there is a time and a place for everything. Remember to use your better judgment and respect your environment and your hosts wishes when attending a special event.
